JRA speaks out about Crowthorne’s Arthur road constructions.
CROWTHORNE – The Johannesburg Road Agency responds to disgruntled Yves Lagauche's claims.
In the article, Crowthorne resident fed up with road construction, Week ending 5 August, Yves Laguache spoke about his frustrations with the construction on Arthur Road in Crowthorne.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers has responded to the matter following investigations of the claims the resident had made. Lagauche said he contacted JRA on numerous occasions to report his grievances about the construction, as well as a promise made by the contractors to adjust his gate in order to accommodate the new road width – but he said his grievances were not attended to.
Peter-Scheepers said, “The JRA has had numerous engagements with the resident as well as the ward councillor in this regard. The Crowthorne Shopping Centre is a private development by Tintswalo Developers.” JRA said it had approved the traffic impact study as well as the detailed design drawings required for this upgrade which necessitates the widening of Arthur Road, and an upgrade of the intersection to accommodate increased traffic and ensure the safety of road users.
The upgrade is said to form part of the larger Midrand Roads Master Plan aimed at accommodating the increase in traffic on the roads infrastructure within the Midrand area. The sidewalk is being reduced due to the extremely limited road reserve available for the widening of the road. However, the JRA stated that all upgrades are taking place within the JRA’s road reserve as per the Midrand Roads Master Plan and not on the resident’s private property.
Through the JRA’s engagement with the resident, various proposals have been put forward to ensure safe access to the said private property, which includes moving the current access point. The JRA has also engaged the contractor to ensure that there is no obstruction to accessing the property.
Former ward councillor Candice James has also spoken out about the claims, highlighting that Laguache is not telling the full story and has been addressed on numerous occasions. James continued to lambaste Laguache as a man seeking outrageous compensations such as a robot with a remote control. Lagauche has confirm that he requested a remote control for the robot.
James has promised to reveal more about the claims.
Tintswalo Developers have been contacted for comment on this matter, but have yet to respond to Midrand Reporter.
