Safe by day, risky by night

MIDRAND – City Parks is expected to install lights and increase security measures on Country View pedestrian bridge.

Following an announcement by City Parks, Andile Andiswa Security has expanded its security operations in Country View to now oversee the security around the Country View pedestrian bridge.

The pedestrian bridge, situated between Freesia Drive and Azalea Avenue, is built over a stream which flows between Ext 1 and 3 of Country View.

According to Stanley Pitso of the Country View Residents Association, numerous residents have fallen victim to crime in the early hours of the morning and late in the afternoon due to the lack of lighting in the park and on the bridge.

Pisto confirmed that City Parks had promised to install lights on the bridge in the near future.

The local Engen garage has also offered to sponsor the erection of a fence to secure crime hotspots in the park and around the bridge.

Sakhiseni Dladla and Joseph Mahlophe, both employed by the security company, revealed that since they have started patrolling near the bridge, the level of crime and public drinking had decreased.
