One taxi passenger killed, 11 injured

MIDRAND – The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on the N1 South near Midrand after a tyre burst.

 

One person died and 11 others were injured when a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle on the N1 South between Allandale Road and the Buccleuch Interchange in Midrand at about 10am on 6 February.

Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said paramedics worked hard to stabilise the injured, two of whom were in a critical condition and had to be airlifted to hospital, while the rest were stabilised before being rushed to various hospitals.

There were heavy traffic delays on both sides of the highway and some lanes had to be closed.

Metro police were still trying to establish the exact cause of the accident, but it is believed that one of the tyres on the vehicle burst.
