MIDRAND – The Grand Central reservoir is still low but is filling up.

Johannesburg Water has said it dispersed water tankers to five points in Midrand to assist those areas still experiencing a water supply shortage.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu had said that the Grand Central reservoir was still low but residents would receive water once the reservoir is filled to a certain level.

The water tankers would be placed at the Mecure Hotel, Old Pretoria Road, Grand Central Airport, Mc Donald’s in Halfway House and at The Boulders Shopping Centre’s parking.

The burst pipe which caused a water shortage in Midrand and surrounding areas has been repaired and all affected residents will receive water by the end of the day on 5 January.

Johannesburg Water confirmed that on 4 January, Rand Water had repaired the pipe which burst on 2 January on its mainline. This had impacted on Johannesburg Water’s ability to supply water to the residents of greater Midrand and the surrounding areas.

“Repairs have been completed and the system is being recharged. We are building capacity in the reservoirs,” said spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu.

Water supply was running critically low in some reservoirs and water towers including in Randjesfontein, President Park, Grand Central, E Rand, Corporate Park Reservoir and Rabie Ridge. However, most of the affected areas have already received water.

“Grand Central reservoir is still very low but picking up affecting mostly Halfway House, Randjesfontein and some parts of Glen Austin. Once the reservoir reaches a certain level, we will then be able to provide water to the remaining residents by the end of the day,” Dhludhlu added.

He urged residents to be patient as measures are put in place to remedy the situation. “Due to the water system, residents in high-line areas will receive water late compared to those that are in low-line areas. We would like to apologise again for the inconvenience”.
