WATCH: Hamerkop flies free

KYALAMI – Friends of Free Wildlife rehabilitate and release a Hamerkop.

Environmental conservation organisation, Friends of Free Wildlife (FFW), is a place where urban wildlife goes to get a second chance.

The urban wildlife rehabilitation centre recently admitted a Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta) which was treated with gentle care and attention. This is according to the Friends of Free Wildlife Facebook page.

“The Hamerkop was a youngster, obviously not getting enough to eat so the order of the day was fluids and tube feeds for 24 hours,” said FFW.

Luckily, FFW said the bird started picking up the food on its own it no time.

“After about 8 days of FFW tender love and care, it was happily released at Inanda Country Base where they occur,” FFW said.
