New fire engines in Ivory Park to improve service delivery

MIDRAND – The old fire engines needed repairs and maintenance.

As winter mostly spells shack fire incidences across the country, Ivory Park Fire Station received a new fire engine to improve service delivery.

The new vehicle was one of the four that was delivered in areas across the City including Florida Park, Eldorado Park and Lawley.

Spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Robert Mulaudzi said two fire engines were newly purchased and two have undergone full refurbishment bringing them to a new up-to-date state. “This new equipment will change the lives of people in Ivory Park and surrounding areas.

“We wanted to create a good environment for our firefighters and paramedics team by providing resources in good condition. This will be vital especially now during the winter season with many incidences of fire.”

Ivory Park Fire Station also services Rabie Ridge and Midrand on demand. Mulaudzi said there had been a number of complaints from community members about the shortage and late arrival of emergency services.

“The old fire engines needed repairing and maintenance every now and then and this hindered service delivery and response time.

“The four new fire engines boast the latest technology and are locally manufactured which allows for easier maintenance.”

Mulaudzi added that residents should take ownership and responsibility for the equipment. “We urge residents to look after these new fire engines which are meant to service them. We have had a number of incidents were EMS vehicles are attacked, hijacked and robbed. These attacks don’t only create fear and panic among EMS personnel when responding to emergencies, but also disrupt service delivery to our communities.”
