Eskom replaces damaged transformer after fire at Mpumelelo Soup Kitchen

MIDRAND – Mpumelelo Soup Kitchen is still in need of donations after a fire destroyed everything in their storage room.

Mpumelelo Soup Kitchen’s founder has expressed her gratitude to all those who have responded to their call for help.

This after a section of the soup kitchen in Ivory Park went up in flames when an oil leak from a transformer caused a fire, burning all their stock, as reported Week ending 29 June, ‘Eskom blamed for soup kitchen destruction’.

Founder of the soup kitchen, Eva Rammutla, said Eskom replaced the old, damaged transformer with a new one on 8 July. “Eskom had been visiting my home frequently during the week ending 6 July for inspections of the damage.”

Rammutla has thanked the Ivory Park community for extinguishing the fire as well as everyone who has helped them with donations. “We received 70 blankets from a member of the community [Nadia Moesar] who saw the article regarding the fire on the Midrand Reporter. We further received two bags of old clothes from another good Samaritan.

“We are fortunate and blessed to live in such a caring and compassionate community. We would like to thank Eskom for keeping in touch with us since the story was published in the Midrand Reporter. Thank you Midrand Reporter for publishing our story.”

Residents have been encouraged to send more donations to the kitchen and play a part in helping their community.
