Premier feeding the children through Blue Ribbon
MIDRAND – Premier, together with Blue Ribbon, made thousands of sandwiches for children throughout Gauteng.
Yolanda van Zyle the brand ambassador for Premier FMCG head office said this year’s Premier decided to combine their annual sandwich experience known as the Blue Ribbon challenge together with their Mandela Day celebrations, calling it the Ultimate Sandwich Experience.
“This event is taking place throughout the country at all our 36 branches and each has been given the minimum target of 8 000 sandwiches,” said Van Zyle.
“Each branch will be giving their sandwiches to the organisations and schools in need of their provinces. The head office will be giving away its sandwiches to six beneficiaries who were selected from the pool of schools and organisations that are the usual beneficiaries of Blue Ribbon and have written to the company seeking donations,” she said.

Van Zyle furthermore added that as a brand, this corporate social investment (CSI) initiative aims to continue the legacy of Nelson Mandela by spreading the message of unity, love and hope through empowering the communities by ensuring that children in need have food.
“The sandwich experience was not forced on any employee but was on a volunteer basis for all the employees who wanted to participate in a good cause on Mandela Day.”
“We are pleased to see that all the employees were excited to participate and gave up more than 67 minutes to make the sandwiches,” said the assistant brand manager for Blue Ribbon bread, Wivine Bashala.

“Mandela loved children, which is why we opted to particularly target beneficiaries who have something to do with assisting children,” concluded Van Zyle.
The list of beneficiaries for the sandwiches are:
- Akani Primary School
- Majakaneng Primary School
- Serophathe Primary School
- Caring Hands Crèche/Feeding Scheme
- Lindokuhle Old Age Home
- Evelyn’s community outreach in Alexander.
