#WeSupportMidrandSPCA this Nelson Mandela Day – join us
MIDRAND – How are you planning to spend your 67 minutes this Nelson Mandela Day? Join us!
Nelson Mandela Day is all about giving back – and we here at Caxton Local Media’s Joburg North branch seriously know how to give back in our community. (Do you recall that our Fourways Review team scooped the award for Best Community Involvement at the 2018 Caxton Awards for their joint efforts with Ark Animal Centre on Nelson Mandela Day last year?)
Under the banner of Caxton Cares, the Fourways Review had joined Ark’s call for community members to donate their unwanted items to the centre’s new charity shop, which launched on the day. The team also appealed to readers to donate much-needed food and necessities for the puppies in Ark’s care. The response from our local community members left us gobsmacked as residents came through to the Chartwell-based centre on the day with car-loads filled with items.
Now, we plan to give back in a bigger and even better way – and again, we need our readers’ help. While the Fourways Review is again running a #WeSupportArk initiative, we here at the Midrand Reporter decided to join our sister publication in a #WeSupport initiative – this time geared towards assisting the Midrand SPCA which suffered another break-in last week. Along with the Midrand SPCA’s call for funds that could assist with upgrading their security system, the Midrand Reporter aims to assist the centre with pet food.

In next week’s edition of the newspaper and on our website, we look forward to showcasing the Nelson Mandela Day efforts in a feature.
Attention advertisers: For those of you who choose to showcase your Nelson Mandela Day activities in our #WeSupportMidrandSPCA print and online feature, a portion of your booking fee will go towards buying food for the SPCA’s dogs.
It’s a win-win! Meanwhile, our sister publication, the Fourways Review, is assisting the Ark Animal Centre team to call on community members to help pave five picnic areas at the centre. Join the team for a day of paving and, of course, you can spend some time with the puppies – think of a day (or even just 67 minutes) walking, playing and bathing puppies. Such fun!
There’ll be a designated donation area too – so bring along dog blankets, puppy food (including tinned food), toys, treats, cleaning products, spray bottles, mops, brooms and buckets for the centre. You can also donate any of your unwanted household items to Ark’s Attic Charity Shop. So, come on Midrand, let’s join hands on Nelson Mandela Day and support these animal charities.
