After a year on the run, the police have arrested a suspect linked to an armed robbery in a bar that left one dead.
Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that the incident occurred on 23 December last year when two armed suspects entered a bar on Modderfontein Road.
Midrand police officers received a call of the shooting. When they entered the establishment, they found a number of patrons who had been shot including two victims who had been shot in the head. The victims were also robbed of their phones and the suspects had fled the scene.
The police immediately called the Johannesburg emergency services who arrived and attended to the injured. Tlamela added that one of the victims succumbed to his wounds.
On 29 November this year, the Midrand police received a tip-off from an informer and arrested one of the suspects involved in the shooting. The suspect was charged with one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder, one count of possession of an unlicensed firearm and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition.
The suspect appeared at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court and is awaiting a bail application.
