Metro police freeway officers stopped a minibus taxi driver on the N1 south, near the Allandale Road off-ramp, suspected for drinking and driving on 9 February.
Chief of the Metro police David Tembe said, “When breathalysed, his reading was 0.40 mg/l which is over the legal limit of 0.10mg/l as a holder of a Professional Driving Permit (PrDp).”
Spokesperson for the Metro police Chief Superindent Wayne Minnaar said the officers were doing a routine check on the road, “When they stopped the driver, they realised he smelt of alcohol. They asked him to step out of the car, noticing he was unsteady, his eyes very red.”
Officers administered a breathalyser test and found he was three times over the limit. The driver was arrested for drinking and driving and detained at Midrand Police Station.
