Woman arrested after she drugged and stole a man’s belongings

IVORY PARK – Ivory Park police arrest a woman for drugging and stealing from a man.

A woman was arrested by Ivory Park police on suspicion of being part of a group of women drugging men they meet at taverns before running away with their belongings.

According to the Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Barnard Matimulane, the 26-year-old was arrested on 17 February after she was identified by one man who fell victim to their schemes.

“It is alleged that the woman, together with others are known to hang out at taverns around the Ebony Park area, waiting to be picked up by some of the male patrons,”

“They then accompany these men to their places where they [the victims] are mostly drugged, steal from their victims’ rooms before leaving. In most cases, the victims became aware several hours later, and by then the suspects have vanished.”

Matimulane added the Ivory Park policing precinct has experienced several of the crimes with this modus operandi in the past year.

The Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, welcomed this arrest but also emphasised that people should not be going to taverns and such places with purposes of meeting up with strangers and bringing them into their private spaces.

“Our experience as the Ivory Park SAPS has shown that this is not a safe practice as these encounters have ended in disasters for those men, many of whom would have been under the influence of liquor.”
