Mayibuye resident discovers dead infant’s body in her yard

MAYIBUYE – This article contains explicit details.

A Mayibuye resident made a gruesome discovery in her yard on 9 March.

Dikeledi Nkuna was alerted by her tenant that there was a dead infant’s body in the sewage spillage by her house. This is not the first body that has been found due to a sewage leak in Nkuna’s backyard. Nkuna told the Midrand Reporter that another body was found in June last year. According to her, the sewage spill has been troubling them for years.

“We have been experiencing the sewage spill for years. It comes and goes but this year we have been experiencing it for the past three consecutive months. We have been reporting this to the authorities but all we received were countless reference numbers and no help,” she said.

Nkuna said they had to move the body aside to prevent it from being washed away before they called the police.

Rabie Ridge Police spokesperson, Jacob Nhlongo, said that they received a complaint that an infant’s body was found in the morning. Nhlongo said the police and all relevant emergency services attended the scene. “We request members of the community to come forward with information concerning the death of the infant by contacting the local police station,” he said.
