Vorna Valley woman robbed outside her home

MIDRAND – A Vorna Valley female resident was robbed in front of her house.

Police officers from the Midrand Police Station are on the lookout for a grey SUV after a woman was robbed outside her home.

Footage captured by a neighbour shows the vehicle taking off after the robbery, which took place in Vorna Valley on 4 March.

According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the complainant said that she had just returned from a coffee outing with her friend. “When she got to her house she got out of the car to go press the gate buzzer so someone inside the house could open for her as she had no keys on her.

“As they were waiting for the gate to open, four men approached and pointed a gun at them, demanding that she hand over her handbag and cell phone.

“The suspects took the victim’s cell phone and handbag which had R300 in it and in the process assaulted the victim with the firearm.”

Danny Maduray, from Ria Sebetsa Security, who got to the crime scene first, added that they were contacted by one of the victim’s neighbours who reported the incident but unfortunately it was too late for them to catch the suspects.

“Together with the Midrand police we traced the victim’s cell phone which led us to Langeveld Street but, because there are a lot of complexes there, we could not manage to pick up the suspects’ car.

“It could be that the suspects drove in that particular area when trying to escape and they could have thrown the cell phone out the vehicle because the phone appeared to be in that area all the time.”

Tlamela added that no arrests were made but a case of a robbery and assault was opened and police are still investigating the matter.
