A man has been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend.
According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station, spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo, Thapelo Maboyi was sentenced to 18 years for the murder of his then girlfriend which took place on 15 March 2018.
“Detective Jeffrey Mhlongo, who carried out the investigation. managed to gather information with help from eyewitnesses which led to the arrest of Maboyi.
“Eyewitnesses who were sitting with the victim at Florinah’s Place, where the incident took place, reported that the convict (31) came and started talking with the victim.”

Eyewitnesses apparently heard the man asking the victim if it was true that she does not want to be with him anymore and immediately after that they heard the victim screaming as she fell down to the floor.
“The convict stabbed the victim in the chest while she was lying on the ground, leaving her in a pool of blood to succumb to her injuries.The murder convict then took the object he used to stab the victim, threw it away and then fled the scene. The victim died at the scene.”
Thapelo Maboyi was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 27 February.
Investigating officer Sergeant Mhlongo thanked all eyewitnesses for assisting with the investigation. “I appreciate the help of those eyewitnesses who came forward and feared nothing so justice can be served.”
