Members of Ivory Park Police Station arrested two men and a woman in Ivory Park for the possession of three unlicensed firearms and 17 rounds of live ammunition.
According to spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, on 17 March the police received a tip-off that there were people in the area known to have firearms and who might be responsible for robberies in the area.
“Upon catching up with one of the suspects the police soon learned that the firearms were placed in possession of a woman known to the suspect. It was also established that the suspects, who are in their 20s, collect the firearms from the woman, who is in her 40s, when there is a crime to be committed.

“The police, along with the suspect, went to the woman’s residence. They demanded that she hand over the weapons in her possession and she was arrested for illegal possession of unlicensed firearms.
“Based on the information provided by the suspect, the officers then proceeded to another address where they recovered a home-made gun and arrested another male suspect. All in all, three firearms and 17 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. ”
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, Station Commander at the Ivory Park Police Station, welcomed the arrests and expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the community members for the information and their brave community patrollers for acting the way they did in assisting to recover all of the firearms and the subsequent arrests.
“The three suspects will be charged with possession of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and are expected to be brought to the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
“Further investigations may reveal whether the suspects are in any way involved in a spate of other crimes, mostly robberies, in Ivory Park and the adjacent areas.”
