WATERFALL – Netcare 911 said the child was found dead on their arrival.

Update, 19 June

Midrand Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that a case of concealment of birth has been opened by the police.

“The suspect is unknown. The child was found by the people that were cleaning along the riverbank picking up papers. The police are investigating the matter,” said Tlamela.

Initial story, 18 June

The body of a day-old baby boy was discovered at 12.03pm on 18 June in the Jukskei River outside Waterfall Estate.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said police officers arrived on scene first and alerted Netcare 911 to the scene.

“The baby was found dead on arrival. It appears that he got caught in the river and washed downstream and was caught in a rubbish collection net,” added Herbst.
