Plans of suspected Midrand robbers foiled by police
MIDRAND — The suspects after they were found to be in possession of firearms and a BMW with cloned number plates.
Gauteng police officers arrested three suspects after they were found to be in possession of firearms and a BMW with cloned number plates in Midrand on 23 June.
According to the Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, the suspects are expected to appear at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court.
Masondo said, “Police received information about a gang that was going to commit a robbery in Glen Austin and President Park. The police kept close observation in the area and noticed the suspects changing number plates on a BMW that matched the description given.”
Masondo said that the suspects were then confronted and upon searching them, police found two unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition. It was also established that the newly-fitted number plates were false.
“The three suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. More charges might be added, pending the investigation.”
