Exercise and raise funds for Kitty and Puppy Haven this Mandela Day
PRESIDENT PARK – Run, walk or cycle at home (or in your neighbourhood) on Mandela Day and support Kitty and Puppy Haven.
Kitty and Puppy Haven in President Park invites community members to exercise and raise funds for their sanctuary on Mandela Day.
Locals are urged to participate in the Mandela Muttathon by running, walking or cycling at home (using treadmills or stationary bicycles) or around their neighbourhood.
Founder and director of Kitty and Puppy Haven Samantha Berger said, “Because of Covid-19, we can’t and won’t have people and companies volunteering at the sanctuary, therefore, we decided to do a fundraiser that people could participate in, raise funds and have fun while doing their bit for Mandela Day.”
Berger said that having too many people at the sanctuary would be a health risk under current circumstances.
“We are closed to the public for walk-ins and volunteers and can only schedule appointments for adoptions.
“This event allows people to still do their bit on the day, in their own time and space, raising desperately needed funds for the sanctuary. We understand that times are tough for everyone in South Africa right now, both emotionally and financially, however we still desperately need their support,” said Berger.
The event will take place on 18 July between 6am and 9pm. Participants can opt to run or walk 2km, 5km, 10km or 20km or cycle 25kms, 50kms or 100km for the cause. The event costs R100 per adult and R50 for children under 16 years.
Locals should enter before 5pm on 17 July by paying the entry fee and sending an email with their proof of payment to admin@kittyhaven.co.za.
Athletes should take selfies with their ‘mutts’ and post them on social media using #MandelaMuttathon and #wechangetheirdestiny. Lucky draw prizes are also up for grabs.
