ICYMI: Ivory Park rapist sentenced to two life sentences and 10 years
IVORY PARK – Ivory Park man behind bars for life after committing two rapes and two kidnappings.
A convicted rapist from Ivory Park has received two life sentences.
On 10 July the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg sentenced the man to two life sentences for two separate rape incidents he was involved in, and an additional 10 years for two counts of kidnapping.
According to Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, 32-year-old Cliff Mathabathe was arrested in January last year in connection with a rape case which took place in Ivory Park Ext 3.
“During further investigations into his possible other criminal activities, it was established through DNA that Mathabathe was responsible for another rape incident which he committed in Tembisa as far back as 2011.”
During his trial, Mathabathe applied for bail which was denied owing to the fact that he was a danger to the community he is living in and that one of his victims would have seen him, thus traumatising her in the process.”
Acting Station Commander of the Ivory Park Police Station, Colonel Baba Mpotoane welcomed the hefty sentence. “Up until he was arrested, Mathabathe has shown that he was not about to stop his evil and wayward ways, therefore the only avenue to stop him was this lengthy jail sentence.”
Mpotoane congratulated the investigating officer, Detective Constable Edmond Lebopo, whose meticulous attention to detail led to the arrest of Mathabathe, thus seeing to it that he ended up behind bars for a long time.
