Suspects wanted for cell phone robbery

CARLSWALRD – Woman robbed of her phone in broad daylight.

Two suspects driving a white Geely sedan are wanted for cell phone robbery.

Midrand police appeal to community members to come forward with any information that might lead to the arrest of two unknown perpetrators committing crimes in the area.

This, after a woman was robbed of her cell phone on 24 July on the corner of Whisken and Neptune avenues in Carlswald.

According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, it is alleged that the victim was standing with her business partner when a man suddenly appeared and grabbed the victim’s phone out of their hand.

Mabulane added, “The suspect fled in a white Geely sedan which was being driven by another male.”Another bystander, who was within the crime scene’s vicinity and witnessed the crime, said that he took out his firearm and shot at the suspects as he thought the incident was one of kidnapping.”

Mabulane said that as the suspects fled the scene, they started losing control of their vehicle, hitting a fence.

Warren Rocky, a community member who was driving by when the incident happened, said he saw the vehicle leaving as he was on his way home from fetching his children from school. “The vehicle had damage to the front end as they hit the entrance pole at Memories Corner exiting the place,” said Rocky.

Midrand Community Policing Forum’s public relations officer, Jacqui von Loggerenburg said that the suspects tried pulling the victim into their car. She added that the victim was offered trauma counseling at the scene.Mabulane said that a case of robbery has been opened and further investigations will continue.

“Midrand SAPS will do its best to search for the suspects and bring justice to the community it serves”Intensive patrols will be conducted to prevent any form of crimes in the area.”
