Ivory Park Police Station head, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo has welcomed the arrest of three male suspects for hijacking and possession of a hijacked truck.
The three were arrested at a scrapyard in Ivory Park Ext 2 on 29 July after the police received information about the movements within the vicinity.
Captain Bernard Matimulane, spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, explained that one of the suspects was later positively identified as one of the original robbers who were involved in the hijacking of the truck which was carrying groceries valued at R250 000.
“The hijacking took place on 27 July in the evening along the R21 highway, in the Olifantsfontein area.”The occupants used a white sedan to impersonate police officers. Some of the armed robbers were wearing police uniform while the sedan used during the hijacking was fitted with a blue light.”
Matimulane added that by the time the truck was found, the registration number had been changed.”Ivory Park Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward by calling 011 990 9600.”
Ngcobo concluded, “We welcome this development and our detectives are hard at work trying to establish what other criminal activities these three are involved in.”
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa soon.
