Rabie Ridge Police Station says number of rape cases is concerning

RABIE RIDGE – Rabie Ridge Police Station say they are investigating the rape related cases and will report any progress on them to the community.

Rabie Ridge Police Station has raised concerns about the number of rape cases being reported at the station.

This comes after a case was reported of a woman allegedly raped by a taxi driver on 17 August while she was on her way home from work in Modderfontein. According to the station’s spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the victim said that the taxi driver picked her up at the corner of Allandale and Zuurfontein roads.

“Thinking they were headed for her destination, the driver turned left going in a direction unknown to the lady,” he said. “When the victim asked where he was driving to, he replied that he was going to pick his girlfriend up. “The driver then stopped in an open veld soon after, jumped into the back of the taxi holding a firearm in his hand and started touching the lady inappropriately, undressing her and raping her.”

Nhlongo added that following the incident, the driver drove the woman back to the location he’d picked her up from and left her there.

Meanwhile, another case involving an eight-year-old girl had left them saddened at the station. He said the child was allegedly raped by her uncle while visiting in Limpopo. “The little girl’s mother saw suspicious things on her daughter’s genitals on 12 August and when she asked her what happened, the victimised child replied that her uncle was sleeping with her.

“Police are investigating these matters and will report any progress.”
