Two guilty of murder receive life sentences

KYALAMI – The two accused of the double murder from 2018 were both sentenced to life imprisonment.

The two people involved in the horrific Kyalami double murder that took place in 2018 have been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Lester Lloyd Latchman and Prenashan Govender were both sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the incident. They were both sentenced to an additional three years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The incident took placed on 12 August 2018 at a celebration party at a club in the Kyalami area.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that in the early hour of the morning, an argument broke out among the accused and victims.

The accused pulled their firearms on the deceased and shot them before fleeing the scene. Tlamela added that the victim was pronounced dead on the scene and the suspects were traced and arrested later the same day.

She said that station management commended the work of the officers involved in the case. The case had been in and out of court for two years before the guilty verdict was reached.

A member of the family of deceased Theolan Nair said, “As much as justice was served, we cannot get our boy back. It was a very traumatic ordeal being in court and we are grateful to the investigating officer who gave us the confidence from day one in court up until the conviction and that helped us pull through.”
