The Rabie Ridge Police Station has asked community members to come forward if they have information regarding a suspect that was badly beaten and killed on 18 August.
According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, it is alleged that the man was involved in a house break-in. He explained that at about 9pm the station received a complaint of a mob justice incident on Luanda Street in Klipfontein.
He added, “Upon our police members’ arrival, the suspect was held captive by the community for [an alleged] house break-in. They beat up the suspect before recovering the items he had allegedly stolen.
“The suspect was taken away from the scene by police with a police vehicle to the police station, as it was not safe for an ambulance to pick him up at the scene. Upon arrival at the station, the suspect passed away.”
Nhlongo added that when the ambulance arrived, paramedics confirmed the man was dead.
He concluded, “A case of murder was opened and no one has been arrested so far. We are still waiting for the community to come forward with any information that can assist us in arresting those who took the law into their hands.”
