Man is injured during robbery

MIDRAND – The Midrand police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.

Police are investigating a report that a man was shot and robbed in Kyalami on 11 September.

According to the Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele, the incident took place around 1.30pm.

He explained that it was reported that the victim, a 65-year-old man, and his cousin went shopping in Kyalami. “On their way out of the parking area, the victim and his cousin, who were driving in a red Mercedes Benz, were bumped from behind by a black SUV vehicle.”

The make, model and registration number is unknown. “When the victim stopped to investigate, he was approached by a short male and was instructed to hand over his watch. He handed it over and thereafter he was shot in the left side of the abdomen,” Makhubele said.

He added that after being shot, the victim got back into his vehicle and wanted to drive himself to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately passed out at the corner of R55 and Main Road, which resulted in him colliding with another vehicle. He was then transported to a hospital.

“No suspects have been arrested. The Midrand police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder,” concluded Makhubele.
