Ivory Park police arrested 18 people on 8 October following their site visits to illegal schools with the Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi.
According to the Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane, two of the suspects were principals from the two schools which were visited on the day. “The 18 suspects were arrested for being suspected of being in the country illegally as they failed to produce proper documentation when we requested them to, and the principals were arrested for the violation of the immigration act as they hired people from across the border with no papers to work in the country.
“Chances are some of the arrested suspects’ relatives may bring the needed documentations, which would be proof that they are not here illegally.”
Matimulane concluded that the suspects would appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court within 48 hours. “Those who failed to produce papers of their stay in the country will be sent to the Lindela Repatriation Camp for possible deportation to their respective countries.”
