Police find body of a young child in Mayibuye

MAYIBUYE – The body of the young girl was found one day after her mother reported her missing.

The body of a deceased child was found near a shopping complex in Mayibuye on 18 October.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the police received a complaint on their radio control of a dead person found near a shopping complex. “Upon arrival, we found a number of community members who pointed out the body to us. It was a seven-year-old girl from Phomolong Section in Tembisa.”

He added, “According to her mother, on 17 October, at about 9.30pm she left her home to a party where she went to collect empty bottles for recycling, leaving her daughter (the deceased) with her two other siblings, sleeping.”

Nhlongo added that the mother explained that when she returned home, she could not find her seven-year-old daughter. She immediately called the police to report her child missing and a docket was opened at the Rabie Ridge Police Station.

“The following day, her daughter’s body was found near the shopping complex.”

Nlhongo concluded that the police will not rest until the person responsible is arrested. “We are requesting the community to assist us with any kind of information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.”
