A security guard working at TRSS Reaction in Midrand was fatally shot in the early hours of the morning on 4 December.
According to TRSS’s marketing coordinator, Ozanne Mac Adam the officer was reacting to a panic signal from one of their clients when the incident took place.
Mac Adam said she could not release many details at this stage as the case was under investigation. Mac Adam described the deceased officer as a dedicated hardworking member of the TRSS family.
“He responded to alarms and panic signals and did a lot of proactive work…This has impacted us severely as we view our staff as part of the family, our company is deeply saddened by this.”
Mac Adam expressed gratitude to community members who have been supportive in their time of shock. “We have had an overwhelming response from the public sending wishes and wanting to help the family with financial contributions, in true South African spirit,” Mac Adam concluded.
Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said that the security guard had intercepted a robbery at a store. It is alleged that there were five or six men involved in the robbery. “During the incident, [the security guard] was nearby and responded. There was an exchange of fire which led to the death of this TRSS Security guard.”
It’s alleged that the suspects fled the scene with the security guard’s firearm. No arrests have been made.
