Midrand police arrest man for possession of Khat

HALFWAY HOUSE – A suspect was arrested for the possession of an illegal substance after attempting to sell drugs to a police officer.

Midrand police arrested one suspect for the possession of khat with a street value of R500 in Halfway House.

Spokesperson for the Midrand police Constable Elliot Mabulane said the arrest occurred on the corner of Old Pretoria Road and Church Street around 1.30pm.

He added that the suspect had approached a police officer who was on duty but in civilian clothing and attempted to sell drugs to the officer.

“The police officer inquired further about what stuff he had. The suspect said that he had access to khat, Mandrax and other drugs that he could sell for half-price.”

Mabulane said the officer searched the suspect and found him in possession of khat. He was immediately arrested and charged with possession of an illegal substance.

The suspect was being detained at Midrand Police Station and would appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon.
