Rabie Ridge police urge people to remain vigilant

RABIE RIDGE – Police urge residents to be alert at all times, this after a man and his friend were held captive at gunpoint.

Rabie Ridge police warn the community to be vigilant, especially since the festive season is around the corner.

This, after two men were allegedly held captive by two armed suspects in Phomolong. The men were apparently forced to transfer money to the suspects using their banking applications on 19 November.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, a complainant alleged that at around 11pm while sitting in his car outside his house with his friend, two men armed with firearms approached them.

“He said that the two suspects instructed that the victims go sit in the back seat of the vehicle then drove around with the victims. While driving, the suspects forced the complainant to transfer money to them using his banking application, to which he adhered.

“They then called the complainant’s girlfriend and told her to transfer money or else they would kill her boyfriend [the complainant],” said Nhlongo.

He added that the suspects later left the victims in the car at a shopping centre in Kaalfontein.

Nhlongo appealed to community members to stay alert and avoid sitting in their cars outside their yard or at gates.
