Traffic heavily affected as truck catches fire on N1 North near Allandale
MIDRAND – The Metro police and the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services are currently on the scene.
Multiple light motor vehicles have been involved in a collision on the N1 North near the Allandale off-ramp in Midrand after a truck caught fire causing heavy traffic on both lanes.
A spokesperson for the Metro police Xolani Fihla confirmed that a truck on the N1 North near Allandale Road has caught on fire. All lanes, going both ways, have been closed off.

The Metro police and the City of Johannesburg emergency services are currently on the scene.
Fihla said, “I can confirm that five other vehicles were involved in the accident, that brings the total number of involved vehicles in the collision to six, including the truck. Two of the vehicles were burnt. At the moment we can’t confirm how many injuries but it has been confirmed that two motorists from those burnt vehicles are deceased”.
Spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Services Robert Mulaudzi said that the accident involved six vehicles which included a code 14 hose and trailer truck which led to the truck and two of the car setting alight. The accident involved driver coming both North and South.
Mulaudzi said that the driver of the truck and another driver were transported to a nearby hospital while four other drivers were treated at the scene.
He added that the two drivers who died in the fire were burnt beyond recognition.
He said, “At this stage the cause of the accident is under investigation.”
