Residents are invited to march against gender-based violence
MIDRAND – The Midrand Mbokodo Women will be marching from corner Harry Galaun Drive and New Road all the way to the Midrand Police Station to deliver a memorandum of demands on gender-based violence.
Midrand Mbokodo Women are inviting all residents of Midrand to support their march against gender-based violence on 12 December as they will be delivering a memorandum of demands to Midrand Police Station.
Midrand Mbokodo Women is a group of women residing in Midrand who raise awareness on social ills and assist victims of gender-based violence.
Organiser Mathapelo Masemola said the idea behind their march was to raise awareness of the current ‘pandemic’ faced by the country – gender-based violence.
She added, “We urge all community members to come. Women, men and children are welcome to march with us. We as the community must be seen as a collective that will not tolerate this violence we see in and around our area. We are all affected directly and indirectly.
“We are delivering a memorandum of demands to the Midrand Police Station’s commander. Our starting point will be on the corner of Harry Galaun Drive and New Road and we will be marching to the police station because the police station is the first point of reference where people go to for help when they fall victim to these acts of violence, therefore we believe that this action will advance our demands.
“This will illustrate all our concerns as a community towards this horrible violence. As a community, we should strive to live in a non-violent, non-sexist and crime-free environment.”
