Foley shares his year-end message
MIDRAND – Ward 94 councillor David Foley shares his thoughts on the year and a message to local residents.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley looks back on this year and shares his festive season message to local residents. He writes:
This [2020] is a year we want to move on from as soon as possible, we will look back in the future and just realise how tough it was.
The level of hardship that was brought to our country during the Covid-19 pandemic has been heartbreaking, to say the least. No one has escaped the wrath of the impact and this has left people’s lives in tatters.
Businesses failing, lack of employment and the incapability to put food on the table became a reality during the national lockdown. The ability for the City of Joburg to provide certain services like pothole repairs and the grading of roads was and still is severely impacted.
Although the City of Joburg provided some relief, most people are struggling to pay monthly rates and other services provided. This is really going to be a tough holiday period where most people cannot afford to go away even for a short period of time
All I can say is hang in there, South Africans are very resilient and have a way of surviving by reinventing themselves.
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and prosperous holiday period, If you are going away, please observe all the rules of the road and arrive safely at your destination. And please remember to wash hand regularly, use hand sanitiser, social distancing is key and wear a mask.
