Rabie Ridge police encourage safety over the festive season

RABIE RIDGE – Rabie Ridge Police will be re-launching their Community Policing Forum as early as January to revive their relationship with their community.

Rabie Ridge Police Station has shared highlights from the year while also sharing hopes for the coming one.

Constable Jacob Nhlongo, spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station said even though this year had been tough, crime levels had decreased.

“More crimes went down from March until October although domestic violence remained high. It was really a difficult year as we were unable to engage with our community members due to Covid-19.

“Police are more powerful when they are able to work closer, hand and glove, with the community. Only through them can we have information of what is happening, where and when,” said Nhlongo.
“We are hoping that next year things get better than 2020, with that being said, we will be re-launching our Community Policing Forum as early as January to revive that relationship we had with our community before Covid-19.”

Nhlongo concluded by wishing the community of Rabie Ridge a safe festive season and shared a few safety tips for the festive season.

“Everybody should be alert during this time. More especially when they are in malls. They should avoid strangers when in a queue or ATMs. They should avoid carrying large amounts of cash.”

He added that people should also be cautious when purchasing items online, and warned the public to refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol.

“We wish the community of Rabie Ridge a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2021.”
