Midrand Cricket look back at their year
OLIFANTSFONTEIN – The Midrand Cricket Club shared their successes and disappointments in 2020.
Chairperson for the Midrand Cricket Club Tshoko Moloko writes:
The Midrand Cricket Club is pleased to be ending off the year off with some cricketing action. Over the last few weeks, the club has resumed practice and started with some warm-up games.
Looking back at the year, there is a lot to be proud of and grateful for. The club began the year with a lot of optimism as we continued our quest to gain promotion into the premier league. This seemed certain up until the club suffered an unexpected loss in their penultimate match which saw them finishing a narrow second.
This was one of our biggest disappointments in many years. However, as we grappled with this disappointed, the world was soon plunged into a period of lockdown restrictions. As difficult as our falling short in our endeavours was, the epidemic gave new perspective to our troubles. It reminded us what has always been central to the makeup of our club.
Our members are avid cricket lovers but beyond that, as we have played together over the years, our kids socialising with each other – we have become one big family that wins together and loses together. It is without doubt that this year’s disappointment will fall behind us and we will soon be up and pursuing our dreams again.
Following a long seven months filled with uncertainty, directives started coming in October on the resumption of cricket. It had been a long wait, but cricket was finally back and the bellied-up members of the club came out shaking off cobwebs off their kit and started taking to the field.
We hold great aspirations going into what will be a shortened season. The club is excited with their first girls’ side that will be participating in the U8 sides. There has been a lot of focus over the last few years on our juniors and we are excited by the growth and the inclusivity that is developing. Our coaches are always working hard as we nurture those the future talent of the club.
