Klipfontein View residents left dry during two-day outage
KLIPFONTEIN VIEW – Klipfontein View community members were not happy after being left without water for almost two days.
Residents in Klipfontein View raised their concerns with Joburg Water after being left without water for two days.
Community members took to social media to complain, saying that they had been without water since 12 January.
One of the residents, Glen Nelushi, told the Midrand Reporter, “We have to go to the bathroom, we have to cook, we have to go to work at our offices. How are we going to do so when there is not water?”
Isaac Dhludhlu, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, acknowledged the problem on 13 January, adding that the water supply came from Ekurhuleni municipality and repairs were taking place. “Rand Water was busy with repairs on a line on the Ekurhuleni side. They have closed supply to the Chloorkop reservoir, and the levels dropped to a point insufficient to feed Klipfontein View. Ekurhuleni is still investigating and we have two [water] tanks roaming around the area.”
The water was restored before midnight on 13 January.
Dhludhlu said due to a Covid-19 case at their mini call centre, it had been temporarily closed, and residents could log calls or escalate matters to the City of Johannesburg on 0860 562 874.
