RABIE RIDGE – Sergeant Jacob Nhlong of the Rabie Ridge Police Station requests community members with information relating to recent murders in his precinct to contact the station or visit them if they have any information.

The Rabie Ridge Police attended to a number of violent incidents on 26 and 27 February.

In the first incident, a 21-year-old male suspect was arrested on charges of murder. Sergeant Jacob Nhlongo, spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station, said that around 9pm on Saturday [27 February] they received a complaint that someone had been stabbed in Mayibuye.

Upon their arrival, police officers found an adult male lying on the ground with stab wounds. It is alleged that a fight ensued at a local tavern after the deceased began flirting with the suspect’s sister.

“The suspect and victim then went outside the tavern to an open field near the drinking spot and continued to fight. The suspect took out a sharp object and [allegedly] stabbed the victim in the chest,” said Nhlongo.

The murder suspect was traced and arrested later the following day and was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon. In a second incident, a 31-year-old adult male was found dead on the ground with a gunshot wound near Masala Road in Klipfontein View on 26 February at around 5.30pm.

Sergeant Jacob added that the man was a local taxi driver and that they do not have information about what transpired and therefore requested community members to come forward with any information that could assist the police. In the third incident on 27 February, a 31-year-old male died on arrival at the Sangweni Clinic in Tembisa after he had been assaulted by someone known to him.

“It is alleged that the victim was slapped with an open hand and fell.” The back of his head was injured as a result of the fall, which later led to his death. Nhlongo added that the suspect is known to the police and is still on the run.

Anyone with information relating to the murders which took place in the Rabie Ridge policing area is requested to contact the investing officer, Detective Sergeant Thulani Ndhlovu on 082 867 25 22.
