Teenager is detained for gun possession

MAYIBUYE – Jacob Nhlongo, spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station said that officers asked the boy where he got the gun from, to which he told them, it belonged to his friend.


A 14-year-old boy was arrested on 12 April after he was allegedly found in possession of a firearm at a shopping complex in Mayibuye.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the boy was apprehended by security guards at the centre.

He added, “The police asked the boy where he got the gun from, to which he alleged that it belonged to his friend.”

Nhlongo said the teenage suspect was arrested and detained at Rabie Ridge Police Station for possession of an unlicensed firearm. “The teenager will appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon for the alleged charge.

“We are appealing with the community to report any illegal activities by calling 011 310 0413 or 10111.”
