Chairperson for the Sector 3 Crime Forum, Marvin Maphiri has applauded his team for the progress that has been made to reduce crime in the area.
Maphiri said the forum has been actively patrolling their neighbourhoods every week and they have started to see the benefits. He added that patrollers have been putting their lives on the line in their efforts to fight crime and protect the community.
The sector which falls under Midrand’s Ward 112 includes Noordwyk, Country View, Crowthorne, Erand and Blue Hills.
Maphiri said their collaboration with Midrand police and local security companies has helped them significantly lower the crime levels in Sector 3.
“One of the disturbing trends the patrollers have noticed thus far is that some parents leave their children inside locked vehicles in public spaces like shopping complexes. This is potentially life-threatening and should be avoided at all costs,” he said.
“High accident zones have been identified in the area and community members should be cautious when approaching these intersections, even though patrollers have been on-hand to assist.”
He pointed out that African View Drive and Olifantsfontein Road next to Summit View, the intersection of African View Drive and R55, New and Lever roads as well as Lever and Olifantsfontein roads have been hotspots for accidents which community members should be aware of.
Sector 3 patrollers would also like to thank their sponsor, Vodacom, for the donation of eight bulletproof vests and first aid kits. “These items greatly assist in the performance of our duties. Businesses that are willing to sponsor Sector 3 can contact us on 071 497 0991.”
Maphiri concluded that
Midrand police asked residents to look out for the following vehicles:
• White Volkswagen Polo, registration unknown with three male occupants and sometimes a female occupant who is used as a decoy.
• Silver Volkswagen Caddy, registration HH 54 LP GP.
