Midrand talent is called upon

MIDRAND – The Midrand People's Market has called on talent in the community of Midrand to come and be a part of their talent for entertainment at the launch of their market on 29 August.

The Midrand People’s Market has called on local artists in the community of Midrand to perform at its launch which will take place on 29 August.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe who has offered her support said the launch would take place at Waterfall Ridge shopping centre.

She added that they hoped the market would boost tourism to the area because many people explored Sandton but did not come to Midrand. “People who book to stay in guesthouses and hotels in Midrand book an electronic hailing taxi to Sandton to be entertained.

“So this is also going to create a space for tourists to be able to come to a place that is safe and secure and they will be able to walk in peace and look at what South Africa has to offer.

“Which is why we are also accommodating local talent. We are now looking for talent, people who live in the area and can dance, model, design clothes and do comedy.”

She added that the market was a non-profit company that was established by Midrand community members who have the same interests and wanted to see the market growth on a month-to-month basis.

Deppe said there would be only 15 stalls as they wanted to make sure that Covid-19 regulations were followed.

“We have got the buy-in from a few people, the shopping centre for one, and they are very happy to host us here. We are trying to have an upmarket market so that we can fit in with the shops that are in the shopping centre… we will have food stalls but not a lot, a haberdashery, homemade goods and beauty stuff, and again we want to accommodate entrepreneurs who live in Midrand and who are not working at the moment or are working from home and selling things from home to try and make a living.”

Details: To apply to perform at the market contact Mary Quackelsteyn on 082 592 4068.
