24 suspects arrested over the weekend

MIDRAND – Midrand Police have urged community members to work together with the police to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Midrand Police Station reported that 24 suspects were arrested on July 10 and 11 on different charges.

Constable Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, explained that most of the suspects were arrested for failing to comply with the Disaster Management Regulations, which includes disobeying the curfew, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving.

“Suspects arrested will appear in [either] the Midrand or Alexandra Magistrates’ Courts to answer to all charges brought against them,” said Mabulane.

“We urge our community to work together with the police to curb the spread of Covid-19 so that we can go back to our normal lives free of Covid-19 and restrictions.”

Mabulane added that the more rules were broken, the longer they anticipate the stay on lockdown.

“The Midrand Police Station continues to deploy the police to monitor compliance and curb the crime within the area.

“We will not hesitate to act where is necessary in order to protect and uphold the constitution. We appreciate those that are continuing to stay home when they should to ease pressure on police and let them focus on crime.”

Mabulane concluded that Midrand police would at all times make sure that their community is safe in their hands and that the service is delivered to them.
