Local businesses join hands and deliver gift packs to Sunninghill Hospital frontline workers

SUNNINGHILL– Kelham thanked Food Lover's Market and Pizza del Forno for their generous gesture.

As a token of appreciation to frontline workers, a local residents association joined hands with local businesses to deliver gifts packs to the hospital staff on Mandela Day.

Netcare Sunninghill Hospital staff received 170 treat packs which contained pizzas, doughnuts, Swiss rolls, milk tarts and other delicacies from Food Lover’s Market and Pizza del Forno on July 18.

Chairperson of Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association Linda Gildenhuys said, “Netcare Sunninghill Hospital is an important part of our Sunninghill community family and we are blessed to have a hospital of this calibre in our suburb. Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association was approached by Pizza del Forno and Food Lover’s Market in Sunninghill in their quest to not just give something back but do something meaningful for Mandela Day.

“There are many worthwhile causes, especially in this day and age, however, we felt that we all have become so overwhelmed over the past year with news of Covid-19. We decided to honour those who have been at the forefront against the invisible enemy.”

Gildenhuys added that the country’s frontline workers were exhausted both physically and emotionally. “We cannot help them with that but we felt we could show an act of kindness in true Madiba fashion and let them know we care. Nurses and frontline workers had to deal with the devastation that Covid-19 pandemic has caused. They cannot walk out the office and close the door, they take this home with them and then return to work again the next day.”

Acting hospital manager at the hospital, Joanne Kelham said, “Netcare Sunninghill Hospital would like to share a message of gratitude to our Sunninghill community for the messages and gifts of support given to the nursing staff during this pandemic.

“Through the generosity and acknowledgement from our community, you have elevated our staff’s value and demonstrated they are not alone in their fight. Your thoughtfulness and recognition of them are so meaningful and we are extremely grateful and appreciative of the remarkable gestures.”
