Residents get their jabs
MIDRAND – From August 16 to 23, the Greater Midrand area had recorded 284 Covid-19 positive cases.

Officials of two of Midrand’s coronavirus vaccinations sites have called on residents to get vaccinated.
The Midrand Reporter visited the Midrand Fire Station and Discovery Gallagher sites on August 26. Nelly Shongwe, the Region A deputy health director said, to date, 34 750 people have been vaccinated in Midrand.

Shongwe added that anybody from the age of 18 was now eligible to get vaccinated, therefore, they encouraged those who wanted to get vaccinated to visit their nearest site.
“You can register on the government website [Electronic Vaccination Data System] for the vaccination. You will then receive an SMS with a registration number and then you can go to any vaccination site to get your jab,”she added.
“If you don’t have access to a smartphone or computer, staff at the vaccination sites can help you to register.”
Shongwe said from August 16 to 23, the greater Midrand area had recorded 284 positive cases. Therefore, the department called on the residents of Region A to stick to the Covid-19 protocols of keeping their distance, wearing a mask, washing their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds and avoiding gatherings.

Gwylm Humphreys, site manager at the Discovery Gallagher site, said they had seen a huge uptake in vaccinations since those aged 18 to 34 years old were eligible to get vaccinated. Humphreys added that, on average, the site vaccinated about 2 200 people per day. The previous week they broke their record and recorded 4 137 vaccinations, the highest number of individuals vaccinated in a day at any site in Southern Africa.
“The Discover Gallagher Covid-19 vaccination site does allow walk-ins as we have the capacity, however, it is suggested that all patrons arrive with the EVDS registration but if some do arrive who are not registered we do help them on site.”
Humphreys concluded that all people who visited the site needed to bring their identification document to get assistance. “I urge all people to get vaccinated and they are more than welcome to come to Gallagher to get vaccinated.”
