Midrand police celebrate several successful convictions

MIDRAND – Midrand Police Station had a number of convictions from July to August this year.

According to Sergeant Thabiso Selowa, spokesperson for the station, a suspect was sentenced to three years direct imprisonment in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking and theft.

He said five suspects were convicted for theft, two of them were fined R10 000 each or sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and the other three suspects where fined R3 000 each or 30 days’ imprisonment in Midrand Magistrates’ Court.

“One suspect was fined R3 000 or 30 days’ imprisonment for possession of drugs by the Midrand Magistrates’ Court.”

“Another suspect was also fined R1 000 or 20 days’ imprisonment by the Midrand Magistrates’ Court for malicious damage to property.”

He added that over the mentioned period, shoplifting was the most committed crime in Midrand and 13 suspects received various fines ranging from R1 000 to R3 000 or 10 to 30 days’ imprisonment.
