Midrand police arrested one male suspect for armed robbery after robbing his victim of a bicycle in Glen Austin.
According to the Midrand Police Station’s spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, the victim was robbed on the corner of George and Pitzer roads in Glen Austin, around 6:40 on September 17.
Mabulane said it was reported that the victim was stopped by three men at about 5:40. One allegedly pulled a knife on the victim and demanded his bicycle.
The victim jumped off his bicycle and fled on foot for his life.
“Fortunately, he came across a SAPS [South African Police Service] patrol vehicle and he explained to the officers that he had just been robbed of his bicycle by three men. The police pursued the direction pointed out by the victim, which led them to arrest one of the suspects that the victim pointed out,” said Mabulane.
He added that the suspect was detained and was scheduled to appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on September 20 to face charges of armed robbery.
The Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso commended the members, impressed by his officers’ swift response in assisting the victim. Tsotsotso concluded that he believed a harsh sentence would serve as a deterrence to other criminals.
