Private security officers and Douglasdale police shared some safety tips for residents as the holiday season approaches.
Tips to prevent house robbery:
• Always be alert and on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people.
• Enhance security through fitting access doors with security gates, and burglar bars on windows.
• Ask neighbours to keep an eye on your house when you are away for an extended period.
• Do not open gates and doors for strangers.
• Verify a person’s details before employing them.
• Check the authenticity of a contractor before allowing them access to the premises.
Tips to prevent business robbery:
• Do not keep too much money on the premises.
• Be alert for suspicious customers.
• Do not keep the shop open till late at night.
• Avoid being alone, especially at night.
• Business owners must not open for anybody after the business has closed.
