State Road is a concern for residents of President Park
PRESIDENT PARK — All the gravel of State Road along West Road to Swart Drive is ravaged with potholes and enormous water gallies that keep getting deeper and deeper every year.
Residents of President Park in Midrand have lodged a complaint with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) regarding the state of one of the many roads in the area that are in poor condition.

State Road which is a gravel road is ravaged with potholes and enormous gullies caused by flowing water that keep getting deeper and deeper every year. One damaged storm water drain, now a huge hole at road surface level, may soon swallow a car wheel.

A resident of the area for 18 years Miguel Assis claimed the matter had been reported to JRA almost 10 years ago when the gravel was beginning to deteriorate from heavy rains and the agency had been ignorant of the problem.
Due to JRA’s ignorance, Assis said some residents started placing bricks on the road to allow their vehicles to pass.

“As the JRA ignored this matter until it escalated, we are now appealing to them to fix the road. We know there is money available to fix roads in Region A so we are pleading with the JRA to do what is right,” said Asis.

Moses Motekrr, a resident of President Park for 15 years, said he had been using sand and bricks to fill potholes on the road, but the materials were not strong enough to withstand the flowing water.
Moreover, another resident Katy Cremer said it had been a constant battle trying to get authorities to fix the roads in President Park. “Hofmeyer Road is also disgraceful among plenty others in the area and only getting worse,” she said.

In response to the matter, JRA spokesperson Mosa Makhalima said JRA had first inspected the roads in Glen Austin. “We have visited Keershond, Collie, Worshond and Republic roads in Glen Austin. It is terrible. I am told President Park has the same issues,” Makhalima said.

“On February 9, we had a site visit with the ward councillor to some of the roads in Midrand. The JRA is aware of the water flowing in most of the streets, it is a serious problem but there is still no clue where the water is coming from. Looks like it is underground water but at this moment we are not sure. We have scheduled another site visit for next Wednesday where we will be joined by other spheres of government in trying to find the cause and solutions thereof.”
