Midrand SPCA take 80 chickens from vendors after issuing several warnings
MIDRAND — The Midrand SPCA team had left previous warnings that had not been adhered to, resulting in 80 of the vendors' chickens being removed.
The Midrand SPCA team of inspectors set out early in the morning on March 14 to make some pro-active inspections in the area.
The team was joined by the manager of Centurion SPCA Karen Gelderblom who accompanied the Midrand inspectors to some of the local hawking sites.
At one of the follow-up sites that were inspected, the Midrand SPCA team which had left previous warnings that had not been adhered to, confiscated 80 of the vendor’s chickens.
“The sad truth is that chickens are one of the most abused animals worldwide. Our team is passionate about these feathery creatures and while they may end up being used for human consumption, we will continue to fight to ensure that they are treated humanely and with kindness,” stated Midrand SPCA.
