Overconfident Opopo FC wins the league while Makang squeezes past Spoilers

The yellow stream is divided into two league tables so the stream A league winners will compete against the stream B league winners and the winners between the two will play play-offs to qualify for the upper-division next season.

Opopo FC downed Midrand-based Tsamaya Boys FC 2–0 on April 27, while the Midrand derby saw Makang Supers FC beat Spoilers FC 2–1 to leapfrog inside the top seven of the Johannesburg men’s regional league table.

Rabie Ridge Stadium played host to both the Opopo FC versus Tsamaya Boys and Midrand derby matches on the day. This was the 24th and final league match for all 13 teams participating in the league.

Opopo FC could thank Thato Nicoawa for breaking the deadlock following a cut-back pass from their skipper Uchenna Ekela to help him up. Tsamaya Boys looked old for the visitors as Shawn Modipane netted a back-hill goal for Opopo FC.

Both sides pushed for more goals in the second half, and Tsamaya Boys’ Vusumuzi Makhatholle missed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back with a quarter of an hour left, and Opopos’ Dowel Ntambwe failed to convert a one-on-one against Tamaya Boys’ keeper, Mogale Ramalobela.

Makang, meanwhile, secured the victory against Spoiler after Nhlanhla Ndumandi opened the scoring with a powerful header from a corner from Njabulo Mathobela.

After the break, Spoilers pressed for an equaliser, and their pressure found fruition when Sibusiso Matshingana levelled with a crisp finish from inside the box.

In the 80 minutes, Peakanyo Kgomosotho won it for Makang when he successfully tapped in a loose ball inside Spoilers’ 16-yard box to make it 2–1.

As the league comes to an end, Spoilers sit in position four of the table with 39 points while Tsamaya Boys ends in position nine with 31 points.
